The goal of this symposium is provide a further understanding of type 1 and type 2 childhood diabetes by discussing genetic factors and epidemiologic changes in Korean children and youth. Prof. Shin Amemiya from Saitama University will speak about a multi-center study that took place in Japan comparing genetic factors of type 1A and type 1B diabetes, and Prof. Jee Suk Yu will cover the general findings of genetic studies in the field of childhood diabetes. Prof. Eun Young Kim will talk about the recent increase in type 2 diabetes incidence as it relates to obesity and metabolic syndrome, in addition to the links between thyroid hormone action and obesity/insulin resistance. Finally, Prof. Hyun-Wook Chae will discuss the epidemiologic changes in Korean childhood diabetes and the associated clinical characteristics.
소아청소년 시기에 발병할 수 있는 1형 및 2형 당뇨병의 병인을 이해하기 위한 유전적 측면과 한국 소아청소년 당뇨병의 역학적 변화에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. Amemiya 교수는 일본의 소아당뇨병에서 Type 1A 와 Type 1B의 유전자를 비교한 다기관 연구에 대하여 유지숙 교수는 소아당뇨병의 전반적인 유전적 연구에 대해 강의할 것이며, 김은영 교수는 최근 증가하는 2형 당뇨병과 관계가 깊은 비만과 대사증후군의 역학과 함께 인슐린저항성에 대한 갑상선호르몬의 작용에 대해 설명할 예정이다. 마지막으로 채현욱 교수는 한국의 소아당뇨병의 역학적 변화 및 임상적 특징에 대해 발표할 예정이다.

S13 Diabetes prevention program in Asia

This session titled, “Diabetes Prevention Program in Asia,” consists of four topics related to prevention strategies for type 2 diabetes in Asians. The first speaker, Nam Han Cho (Korea), will give an overview of diabetes prevention programs in Asia and the clinical characteristics of prediabetes based on the findings of the Ansung-Ansan cohort study in “Introduction to diabetes in Asia and Ansung-Ansan community cohort epidemiologic study.” The second speaker, Guangwei Li (China), will present the long-term results from the China Da Qing Diabetes Prevention Study and discuss ethnic differences in “Long term effects of lifestyle intervention in different ethnic group.” The last speaker, Naoki Sakane (Japan), will give a talk titled, “Japan diabetes prevention program (JDPP) and Japan diabetes outcome intervention trial-1 (J-DOIT1).”
본 심포지움에서는 “Diabetes prevention program in Asia”라는 주제로 총 4개의 강의가 계획되어있다. 첫 번째 강의는 아주의대 조남한 교수가 “Introduction to diabetes in Asia and Ansung-Ansan community cohort study”이라는 제목으로 아시아인에서의 제2형 당뇨병 예방프로그램에 대한 전반적인 소개와 함께 국내 안성, 안산 코호트 연구결과를 바탕으로 우리나라에서의 당뇨병 고위험군과 그 예방대책에 대한 강의를 해 주실 예정이다. 두 번째 강의는 인도의 Ramachandran Ambady 교수가 “Primary prevention of diabetes in Asian Indians”라는 제목으로 인도에서 시행되었던 제2형 당뇨병 예방프로그램이었던 Indian Diabetes Prevention Program (IDPP)의 결과와 이에 관련된 내용을 소개할 것이다. 세 번째 강의는 중국의 Guangwei Li 교수가 “Long term effects of lifestyle intervention in different ethnic group”이라는 제목으로 주로 중국인을 대상으로 한 제2형 당뇨병 프로그램이었던 Da Qing Diabetes Prevention Study의 결과와 함께 임상적 의의 등에 대해 강의해줄 것이다. 마지막 강의는 일본의 Naoki Sakane 교수께서 “Japan diabetes prevention program (JDPP) and Japan diabetes outcome intervention trial-1 (J-DOIT1)”이라는 제목으로 일본인을 대상으로 하였던 제2형 당뇨병 예방프로그램인 JDPP와 J-DOIT1의 결과에 대해 강의해 주실예정이다.
