S3 Recent advances in gut hormone and diabetes

There is no doubt that this is the era of incretin as DPP-4 inhibitors and GLP-1 analogues have become more and more popular in clinical practice. This session features the recent advances in gut hormone biology and incretin therapeutics. Dr. Fujita recently found that a short-form GIP is produced and secreted from pancreatic alpha cells as well as gastrointestinal K-cells. He will elaborate more on the function of this new form of GIP. Dr. Seong is working on a project aiming to identify new GLP-1 receptor ligands based on the core structure of the receptor. Dr. Toyoshima recently discovered a new gut peptide called IBCAP, which augments insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells. Could it be a third incretin hormone following the discovery of GIP and GLP-1? Dr. Lee is dedicated to his research on the modification of GLP-1 analogues, and he will deliver a lecture on the pharmacological properties of modified GLP-1 analogues. 최근 DPP4억제제와 GLP-1 아날로그를 임상에서 이용할 수 있게 됨에 따라 인크레틴 분야에 대한 관심이 급증하고있다. 이에 새로운 인크레틴 관련 연구에서 주목할 만한 성과를 발표한 두 분의 일본 연자와 국내에서 GLP-1 관련 치료제 개발에 노력 중이신 두 분의 연자를 모셨다. GIP는 위장관 K-cell에서 생산 분비되는 것으로 알려져 있으나 Fujita 등은 short form의 GI가 췌도 알파세포에서도 만들어짐을 밝혔고 위장관에서도 short form의 GIP가 만들어짐을 관찰하여 보고한 바 있다. 이러한 short form의 GIP의 역할이 무엇인지에 대한 연구결과도 함께 발표할 예정이다. Toyoshima 등은 최근 새로운 위장관 펩티드인 IBCAP를 발견하였는데 베타세포에서 인슐린 분비를 항진시키는 기능을 가지고 있다고 한다. 발견 경위와 새로운 펩티드의 기능에 대한 강의가 있을 예정이다. 성재영 교수는 GLP-1 수용체의 구조를 기반으로 새로운 ligand 탐색에 대한 연구 내용을 발표하실 예정이고, 이강춘 교수는 GLP-1 아날로그의 다양한 modification이 어떤 효과를 야기하는지에 대한 그 동안의 많은 연구 결과를 종합해 주실 것이다.

S7 NAD biology and metabolism

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) is a classic coenzyme with a well-established role in cellular redox reactions. Intracellular NAD is also considered a metabolic sensor since NAD-dependent acetylase, sirtuin (SIRT1-7) have been implicated in metabolic processes such as hepatic gluconeogenesis, adipogenesis, insulin secretion and skeletal muscle metabolism. In this symposium, three speakers will speak about "mitochondrial situin," "sirtuin and central metabolism" and "a new therapeutic approach targeting sirtuin."
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) 세포내 산화-환원 반응의 조효소로 알려져 있으나, 최근 NAD-의존성 탈아세틸효소인 sirtuin (SIRT1-7)이 간에서 포도당신생, 지방세포 분화, 인슐린 분비, 골근격에서 지방산산화 등 다양한 대사조절 과정에 중요한 역할을 수행함이 밝혀져 NAD biology와 sirtuin에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 따라서 본 심포지움에서는 이 분야의 최근 발표된 연구 결과를 정리하고, 당뇨병의 치료적 측면에서 적용 가능성을 모색하는 시간을 갖고자 합니다.

S17 Gestational diabetes mellitus

Gestational diabetes is pathogenically similar to Type 2 diabetes. After the GWAS results of Type 2 diabetes, the genetic risk of GDM is interesting whether it is similar to Type 2 diabetes. In GDM session, Dr. Kim will talk about the genetic risk of GDM, and Dr. Kwak will present the genetic risk of women with previous GDM converted to Type 2 diabetes. Pregnancy outcome is a big issue in GDM. Dr. Lee will discuss the impact of maternal obesity on perinatal outcome in Korean obese women. Dr. Oh, finally present the new concept of fetal metabolic programming.
최근 임신성 당뇨병의 새로운 진단기준이 발표되고 나서, 임신성 당뇨병의 병인과 임상적 의미에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 최근 제2형 당뇨병의 GWAS결과가 발표되고나서, 병인론적인 면에서 제2형 당뇨병과 유사한 임신성 당뇨병에서도 유전적 특성이 유사한 지가 관심이다. 김성훈교수가 이점을 강의할 예정이며, 곽수헌선생은 임신성 당뇨병 여성에서 당뇨병으로 진행하는 여성의 유전적 특성에 대하여 발표할 예정이다. 또 임신성 당뇨병의 임상적 특성은 태아에 미치는 영향이다. 이경주교수는 임신부의 비만이 태아에 미치는 영향에 대하여 국내자료를 중심으로 토의할 것이며, 오은숙선생은 태아의 metabilic programing에 대하여 발표할 예정이다.
